SWiSH E-BOOK HELP PAGE |
|
You are at this page because you are having trouble getting the FACT button in your E-book to display the demo window. There are two possible problems that could be causing your problem. The first one is HOW you run the E-book. I have heard that some people who run the E-book viewer program, then select the E-book have problems with the demo window. Nobody seems to be having any problem if they double-click the actual TK3 file (the one that contains the actual E-book). In my opinion, the best way is to place a shortcut on my desktop to the E-book's TK3 file. Then I simply double click the shortcut and everything works fine. The second possible problem relates to the files that actually display the demo window. The demo window is actually an SWF (Flash animation) file. There are two different ways to play this type of file. The method that is used most of the time is while a browser is running. If you visit a website, you are using a browser (like IE or Netscape). Most browsers already have a flashplayer plug-in built into them. If not, then all you have to do is go to Macromedia's website to get one. When you view an HTML file that contains an SWF file, the plug-in runs, and you see the Flash animation. Some people also have their browser set up to display the animation if you run just an SWF file (that isn't in a HTML file) in your browser. The second method is to view the SWF files without using a browser. To do this, you have to have some type of Flash player set up to run the files whenever you double-click an SWF file. Most of the rest of the information on this page explains how you can tell if your computer is set up in this manner. If you already know that it isn't, and you need to know where to get a Flash Player and how to load it, CLICK HERE.
Next, click the FILE TYPES tab,
then scroll down the page to the next image.
Use the scroll bar to scroll down the list of file types until you get to FLASH MOVIE. We don't want to look at FLASH DOCUMENT or SWISH MOVIE! The ONLY one that we want is the one that says FLASH MOVIE. You should see 'SPL SWF SWT' shown as
the extensions used for FLASH MOVIE. and it should show something beside 'OPENS WITH'.
If FLASH MOVIE is not one of the FILE TYPEs listed, CLICK HERE.
This is what you will see. Scroll down the 'Default Extension for Content Type' list until you get to '.SWF'. The list I am talking about is the list in blue in the image that presently shows '.SPL'. When you have it selected, click the EDIT button, then scroll down to the next image.
Check what is in the portion of this screen that is highlighted in blue in this image,
then use Windows Explorer to see if the file exists. Double click the file in Windows
Explorer to see if it works. If it does, select FILE from the pull-down menu, and
browse until you find an SWF file, then select it. If this works, then there is
something wrong in the way it has been set up, but the actual player works. The simplest
solution would be to re-install the player and follow the directions given.
DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING FLASHPLAYERHere is a site that you can go to in order to download a copy of FlashPlayer for your computer. http://www.ahlrates.com/players/ This is not coming from my site so I can't guarantee that it is virus free so please check it with YOUR virus checker before installing it. Once you have the file, and you know where it is, double click on an SWF file and a window should pop up asking you what program to OPEN the file WITH. Browse to where your Flashplayer it is located, and select it. The FACT buttons should now run the appropriate SWF files now, as long as:
