WINDOWS - SCREEN RESOLUTION

You are here because your Screen Resolution is set to less than 800 x 600 pixels. That is the minimum resolution that your computer can be set to and still be compatible with FACT's online CBT Viewer. If you want to use our learning materials, you will have to make the necessary adjustments.

The simplest way to change the size of your computer's screen resolution is to first close all open Windows. Next, use your mouse and right click anywhere on the screen (except on an icon that is on your desktop). When you do, the image to the left of this text will appear. Next, click PROPERTIES. A box similar to the image below will be displayed.

This is the DISPLAY PROPERTIES menu. Note that there are several TABS across the top of the box. The number that is visible, depends on what version of Windows you are using, and certain hardware considerations (e.g. your video card). You will most likely have more than are displayed in this image. Remember, this is a guide, it is not exactly what you will see. Click the Settings Tab.

There are a few things that should be selected here. The first is the actual screen resolution, which is set to '800 by 600 pixels'. If you are having a problem, your is probably set to 640 x 480. To change this, you simply click and hold down your left mouse button while you are over the little pointer, and move it to the right. With luck, it will then say 800 x 600 and your problems are probably over. You should also select at least 256 colours from the 'Color Palette' and Small Fonts from 'Font Size'. Finally, you click Apply. Assuming you have the necessary driver disks for your Video card, everything should be resolved and after closing down and starting Windows again, you should norice that everything on your screen appears to be smaller.

Of course, some of you will still have a problem. That can usually be solved by clicking the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button. When you do, the menu to the right will appear. You should make sure that you set up the correct video card (the top selection area) and in some cases, you may have to also change the bottom selection to correspond to the monitor that you are using.

Unfortunately, there will be some of you who are using an older computer with a monitor (or video card) that is only VGA compatible. BOTH MUST be SVGA compatible to display 800x600 pixels of resolution.
